Multi-Language Codebases
C# and Native Code|Explicit Integration Boundaries|One Reproducible Build
Sphere 10 integrates C#, C++ and Rust where different parts of a system have different constraints. We preserve valuable native libraries, place performance-sensitive work behind stable interfaces and keep the resulting application understandable to the team that will maintain it.
Give Each Language a Clear Job
C# is often the right home for application orchestration, business services and user interfaces. C++ may own an existing device SDK or specialist computation; Rust may own a new native component where memory ownership needs close control. We choose the boundary around measurable requirements rather than distributing the same business rules across three implementations.
In-process integration normally starts with a narrow C ABI. LibraryImport or DllImport declarations, explicit string encoding and fixed-width types make the managed/native contract visible. SafeHandle and documented ownership govern resources crossing that boundary. If a native crash must not terminate the UI, a separate worker process and an explicit protocol may be the better design.
Experience at the Managed Boundary
Sphere10 Framework contains managed Windows API bindings, higher-level Windows abstractions and Communications components for anonymous pipes, TCP and JSON-RPC. We use those existing boundaries where appropriate, with an explicitly specified wire contract for isolated workers. The chosen implementation is exercised end to end for message framing, cancellation, resource ownership and shutdown before it is included in a release.
We inspect existing build systems and licences before changing them. CMake, Cargo and dotnet builds remain responsible for their own artifacts, with an outer build that records the exact versions, architectures and native dependencies required by the application.
Test Beyond a Successful Call
Hand Over the Contract
The deliverable includes wrapper code, ABI or message documentation, reproducible builds and a compatibility test suite. We provide a failure-isolation and ownership map so maintainers know which side allocates, frees, retries or translates an error. Acceptance includes stress and repeated open/close cycles, not only a happy-path demo. Existing components can then evolve behind a versioned interface without requiring every application module to understand their implementation language.
