Virtualization

Workload Isolation|Server Consolidation|Recoverable Virtual Machines

Sphere 10 designs and implements virtual infrastructure for application hosting, development environments and server consolidation. We align the hypervisor, guest systems, storage and networking with the workloads they must support. The design includes the practical work of migration, backup and recovery, not just the creation of virtual machines.

Size the Host and the Guests Together

We inventory the existing servers and measure the resources their applications actually consume. CPU scheduling, working memory, storage latency and network demand are reviewed across the host as well as within each guest. Allocation and headroom reflect busy periods and maintenance events instead of relying only on average utilisation.

Hyper-V and KVM-based platforms can be evaluated according to the operating systems, support arrangements and management skills in the environment. We distinguish desktop development virtualization from a server design that needs migration or availability features. The selected edition, storage configuration and recovery design determine what can be supported.

Preserve the Application's State

Our .NET application and persistence work, including Sphere10 Framework , gives us a practical view of connection lifetimes, transactions and persistent files. A virtual disk snapshot is not automatically an application-consistent backup. We identify which processes and databases must be coordinated when taking a copy or moving a workload.

The implementation defines virtual networking, host management access, guest identities and storage placement. Migration planning covers the application endpoint, DNS, client dependencies and a rollback decision point. We rehearse important transitions with representative workloads so cutover is based on known behaviour rather than the first successful guest boot.

A Managed Virtual Environment

A host and guest capacity plan with workload placement and agreed resource allocations.
Documented virtual switches, networks, storage paths and administrative boundaries.
Guest templates or build procedures with supported drivers, update and application configuration.
A migration sequence, backup integration and recovery procedures tied to application requirements.

Accept the Workload After Recovery

Acceptance checks include host and guest restart, resource contention and restoration of a representative system. Where availability or migration is in scope, we test the agreed transition and measure its effect on the application. Handover includes inventory, configurations, baseline measurements and the sequence for maintaining the environment. Your staff can see what is protected, what must be shut down and what evidence demonstrates that a recovered application is usable.
